Glenlivet 18 (OB)

Mass Production

Not the eldest of the regular Glenlivet range, but probably the much easier to find at your local stockist than let’s say the 50yo release. Also one of the better prised premium 18yo single malts out on the market.

glenlivet18Description: matured for 18 years and bottled at 43% ABV for the official range of Glenlivet.

Nose: overall quite bashful, except for the soft aroma of stewed apple with vanilla sugar, caramel and a timid note of citrus, there are fairly little noteworthy elements.

Mouth: round and mellow with a caramel driven palate. Notes of creamy ice latte coffee, with a bit of bitter orange zest, oak tannins and a tea spoon of honey.

Finish: medium long and dry, with essences of balsa wood, nutmeg, and liquorice-chocolate.

The Verdict: elegant, but little exciting. It is hard to hide the simplicity demanded by mass production. Quite enjoyable and honest dram, but it could probably be achieved for a lesser price in a shorter time frame. (I have a reputation of a posh reviewer to hold high).
