Bunnahabhain 1991/2015 Whisky-Fässle

A Bunna New Year

First dram of the new year has been a Lagavulin 16 for the 5th consecutive year, probably a tradition that is going to stick. But my N⸰2 comes from only a stone throw away, the eastern shore of Islay… Bunnahabhain. First tasting notes of 2017, here is to another year of whisky reviews, Sláinte!

bunnahabhainDescription:
distilled in 1991, matured for 23 years in a (Bourbon) hogshead and bottled at 47.5% ABV by the German independent bottler Whisky-Fässle in 2015.

Nose: fresh and tropical fruity, orange blossom and banana, honeydew, wood scrapings, milk cream and vanilla.
(with water added: mainly the addition of that old furniture smell).

Mouth: full bodied and slightly drying, a palate that is mostly just leather and ash, with soft undertones of orange zest and vanilla.

Finish: medium long, cigar tobacco with a soft black pepper edge.

The Verdict: not the big whopper I was hoping for to kick things off, but still a very presentable dram.

Score: 85
